Cryo Fresh™ combines the ground-breaking concept of Frozen Fresh Hops with the innovative Cryo Hops® technology. It offers a new way to brew fresh-hop beers, with a practical, concentrated pelletised product. This unique product captures the pronounced aroma and character of fresh hops with minimal demands on space and handling.
How Cryo Fresh™ is made
Cryo Fresh™ starts in the hop field with freshly harvested, undried cones. These are frozen immediately, which locks in their delicate aroma and preserves the integrity of the lupulin glands. The whole fresh-frozen cones are then processed with a patented cryogenic process that isolates the concentrated lupulin and preserves the essential hop oils in a frozen, nitrogen-enriched, low-oxidation environment. The result is Cryo Fresh™ pellets.
How to use Cryo Fresh™
Cryo Fresh™ can be used at any stage of the process, including the cold side, where using whole fresh cones is difficult. To maximise the fresh-hop character, Yakima Chief recommends using it in an active or post-fermentation dry hop.
Benefits of Cryo Fresh™
- Flexibility: unlike fresh cones, there is no need to brew right after harvest.
- Fresh-hop aroma: brings the typical green, fresh aromas of freshly harvested hops at any time of the year.
- Practicality: the pelletised form eliminates the problems of bulky cones.
- Concentration: one 5 kg pack of Cryo Fresh™ corresponds to roughly 33 lb (≈ 15 kg) of whole fresh cones.
- Shelf life: up to 3 years with proper frozen storage.
